2017
Seventeen
60% Cab Sauv, 27% Syrah, 13% Carmenere
The sixth vintage of Lariana’s signature blend, named after the year of its harvest, remains dominated by the estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Carménère (13%) with Syrah (27%) coming from Red Brick vineyard on the east side of Osoyoos lake. All the grapes for the blend were harvested mid to late October. After numerous individual tastings of barrels of each varietal, the final blend was assembled Dec 2 2018 and bottled April 2019.
Blending at most times is a tightrope balancing act, Lariana 17 has certainly achieved this and beyond. Engaging aromas of both red and black fruits with a background persistence of violets. On the palate, sleek and direct, steeped in flavours of dark ripe plums with some bramble poking through the wire-knit fence. Gracious and approachable tannins continue to persist well beyond the last sip. With the cooler months approaching, braised beef shanks come to mind.
